As I sit here holding my gut because of some bad food the other night, i’m reading a letter written by Nas to Def Jam executives on http://www.allhiphop.com/stories/editorial/archive/2010/10/07/22425459.aspx (copy and paste the link)
and hes right…The Executives want to be the stars but they are soooooooooo far from it. BUT it didnt work out, they took a desk job as he said.
But here we go again, another music legend beefing with his own label and im just like….how do you let yourself get to this point nowadays Nas? Because everything is going independent! Hell Ice Cube has been doing his thing for YEARS and is making a fan base from 5yrs old to 50yrs old and STILL sell’s records in a time where CD’s are almost gone. Why stay with a label when the guy you signed under (Jay-Z) is no longer there?
There are soooooo many different Indi labels out that really a MAJOR artist like NAS, all he has to do is say “Which Distribution Company do I want for this album?” and they will JUMP at the chance to work with him knowing his track record and how many units he sell’s every time he puts out a album. No reason for the major label deals anymore, hell major labels are JOINING EACHOTHER because they are losing Millions of dollars EVERY WEEK! (Shout outs to Napster)
It just shows that it doesnt matter what label you are on anymore, hell some people didnt even care in the first place! It’s about the artist themselves being their own Boss and putting on their own Shows, Deals, Albums, and gaining the 100% of it at the end of the day. We all need help, but im VERY SURE a Legend in the music industry can gather that…
